1. INTRODUCTION
The CapeTourism.com / AfricaWorks Awards 2025 (“the Awards”) celebrate excellence in tourism and hospitality in Cape Town and the Western Cape. These Terms and Conditions govern participation by nominees, voters, partners, and all users of the awards platform. By engaging in the Awards in any capacity, you agree to these Terms.
2. ELIGIBILITY & NOMINATIONS
- Nominees must operate within the Western CapeTourism.com industry.
- Initial nominations are selected by CapeTourism.com’s editorial team.
- Businesses may self-nominate by contacting us on our CONTACT FORM and letting us know why they feel they should be considered.
- CapeTourism.com reserves the right to verify all information submitted.
3. JUDGING & VOTING PROCESS
A. Professional Judging Panel
- Judging panel includes industry experts and CapeTourism.com staff.
- Judges assess nominees based on 10 defined criteria (see Section 10).
- Judges contribute 40% toward the final score.
B. Public Voting
- Public voting occurs via the official CapeTourism.com voting page.
- One vote allowed per email address per category.
- By voting, you agree to be added to our email list and receive our weekly newsletter.
- Voter data is collected and processed in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
- Public votes contribute 60% toward the final score.
4. VOTING INTEGRITY
- Automated, duplicate, or fraudulent votes will be disqualified.
- CapeTourism.com may request voter verification if suspicious activity is detected.
5. VOTER INCENTIVES
- Voters may be eligible for spot prizes and a grand prize draw.
- Winners are selected randomly and will be contacted via the email used to vote.
- Prizes are non-transferable and may not be exchanged for cash.
6. AWARDS & PROMOTIONS
- Nominees receive a digital badge and promotional materials.
- Winners receive a certificate, trophy, digital badge, and media exposure.
- Businesses may purchase an optional Awards Promotion Package valued at R2,000. This package is not a requirement for winning.
7. AWARD SALES POLICY
- Awards cannot be bought or influenced.
- Marketing packages offered to winners enhance visibility but do not affect the judging outcome.
8. EVENT & PUBLICITY
- Winners will be announced during a virtual or hybrid ceremony.
- By participating, nominees grant CapeTourism.com and AfricaWorks rights to use their name, logo, and likeness in promotional content.
9. COMPLIANCE & GOVERNANCE
- The Awards comply with the South African Consumer Protection Act and relevant sections of the Competitions Act.
- No participant is required to make any payment to win.
- The competition is not open to employees of CapeTourism.com, AfricaWorks, DMM Media (Pty) Ltd or immediate family members of the judging panel.
10. JUDGING CRITERIA
Nominees are evaluated on the following weighted criteria (out of 100):
- Customer Satisfaction (20 pts)
- Quality of Service (20 pts)
- Innovation & Creativity (15 pts)
- Sustainability Practices (10 pts)
- Industry Reputation (10 pts)
- Value for Money (10 pts)
- Accessibility (5 pts)
- Cultural & Local Integration (5 pts)
- Uniqueness/Quirkiness (3 pts)
- Wow Factor (2 pts)
11. SPONSOR OBLIGATIONS
- Sponsors contributing prizes or resources must provide deliverables within the agreed timeframes and standards.
- CapeTourism.com reserves the right to substitute any prize with another of similar value if a sponsor fails to deliver.
- Sponsors agree not to influence the outcome of the judging or voting process in any way.
- All sponsorships are subject to written agreement outlining deliverables, branding exposure, and usage rights.
12. LEGAL DISCLAIMERS
- CapeTourism.com reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or amend the Awards or any part thereof due to events outside its control.
- The decisions of CapeTourism.com and the judging panel are final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.
- Participation in the Awards is at your own risk. CapeTourism.com, Africaworks and DMM Media (Pty) Ltd, including their staff, are not liable for any loss, damage, or injury resulting from the Awards or associated activities.
- All information is correct at the time of publication. CapeTourism.com is not responsible for any errors or omissions.
13. GENERAL TERMS
- CapeTourism.com reserves the right to amend these Terms at any time.
- Any disputes will be handled in accordance with South African law.
- Participation implies acceptance of these Terms in full.
